My project 1 5

Bilsland Drive is a vital route in and out of Maryhill, particularly for residents in Ruchill and Possilpark.

The bus service through Ruchill is essential for residents and this would have effectively been lost for three weeks. That was simply not acceptable. The withdrawal of the service would have impacted on many with older residents and those with mobility issues trying to access amenities such as supermarkets; as well as families whose kids attend local schools who depend on the bus service.

I absolutely agree with my constituents that closing the road for three weeks, and at short notice was just not on.

Isolating a community in this way was not an option.

I am pleased that following my intervention along with Cllr Allan Gow, that common sense has prevailed and a contraflow system is now planned as opposed to a road closure. Whilst we should never have been in this situation in the first place, I welcome the speedy resolution once it was brought to my attention.

Although there will still be some disruption, I am relieved an alternative plan has been adopted and the road will remain open and FirstBus service 90 will run as normal.

Thank you to everyone who helped.
