I recently participated in a Scottish Government debate 'Building a New Scotland - Social Security in an Independent Scotland'. It set out the core principles on which such a system should be based; fairness, dignity and respect.

More details of the Social Security paper from the Building A New Scotland series can be found here https://www.gov.scot/publications/social-security-independent-scotland/

I would draw your attention to the 10- key areas for action following independence which include removing the two-child limit and scrapping its ‘rape clause’; removing the benefit cap; scrapping the bedroom tax; replacing Universal Credit ‘budgeting loans’ with grants and ending the current benefit sanctions regime. It is worth noting that Labour have not signed up to doing any of these things were they to form the next UK Government.
