Today in the Scottish Parliament I asked the Scottish Government what steps it is taking to increase voter turnout in both Scottish parliamentary and local government elections.

However, votes must not just be cast in large numbers, they must also count.

I raised the concerns that in Canal Ward (which covers Possil and Milton) the number of rejected votes was three times higher than any other council ward - the highest in Scotland.

Along with my council colleagues Cllr Allan Gow and Cllr Jacqueline McLaren, I recently met with the Electoral Commission. I am pleased the minister has now also agreed to meet with me to discuss the matter further.
