McClure's Solicitors

Background

Greenock law firm WW & J Mcclure Limited went into administration and ceased trading in early 2021. Glasgow firm Jones Whyte LLP took over the goodwill, work in progress and certain assets of WW & J Mcclure Limited when it ceased practice in 2021.

Many constituents have already contacted me with concerns as they or their relatives had trusts managed by McClure’s, or had a will drawn up by them or some other business with the firm, and are concerned at where their documents are and what the implications of the firm ceasing to trade may be for them.

The Law Society of Scotland have an extensive and well-researched “Frequently Asked Questions” page specifically for former clients of McClure’s, which you can find at - https://www.lawscot.org.uk/news-and-events/law-society-news/mcclures-jones-whyte-faqs/

What I am doing as your local MSP

McClure’s was founded in Greenock. As such, they had a large number of clients and former clients that reside The west of Scotland. I have been made aware of a number of concerns by constituents about the firm going into administration, about the standard of representation and work they had as former clients, and their concerns about the Trusts set up by McClure’s. I have had meetings on this matter, as well as writing formally to various bodies.

Along with MSP colleagues, I will continue to press for more investigations into the situation and more action to support those who are affected by McClure’s administration.
