Several constituents have been in contact with me about significant issues in relation to flooding in Summerston, and in particular at the railway bridge on Sandbank Street. I have been in correspondence with Glasgow City Council for several months on this matter, and certainly before the most recent period of flooding. Staying in Summerston myself I well know this flooding has been a long term problem in this area and I am disappointed that the City Council has never previously sought a long term solution.

Scotland continues to become a healthier nation – with deaths from heart disease and strokes falling by a third since the SNP came to government in 2007.

Figures released today show that mortality rates for coronary heart disease have dropped by 36% and deaths from strokes have fallen 33% since 2007.

Tributes paid to hard-working NHS staff

Today's strong A&E figures show that SNP investment in the health service is continuing to pay off – supporting hard-working NHS staff in delivering a first-class service for patients.

Figures published today show that during the week ending 27 December, 96.1 per cent of patients were treated within four hours at core sites – above the interim target of 95 per cent.

Bob Doris MSPSNP MSP for Glasgow and deputy convener of the Scottish Parliament Health & Sport committee, Bob Doris congratulates the nearly 200 former nurses and midwives who are expected to return to practice this year. The number is almost double the Scottish Government’s initial target, making the programme a resounding success.

Over 40 participants have already completed Return to Practice programmes in 2015, allowing them to retrain and re-enter the nursing and midwifery workforce.

Scotland the only nation to see improving performance

The SNP has today highlighted new figures showing that Scotland’s NHS is ‘streets ahead’ of the NHS south of the border on A&E waiting times – as Scottish Government investment in our health service continues to pay off.

Figures published today show that across core A&E sites 88.6 per cent of patients in England were admitted, transferred or discharged from A&E within four hours of arrival – compared to 94 per cent of patients in Scotland.

Bob Doris MSP with youngsters taking part in the Youth League courseSNP MSP for Glasgow, Bob Doris, recently met with young adults attending a Street League employment initiative, an organisation focused on tackling youth unemployment, at Petershill Park in Springburn, benefitting from the course. Street League gives participants the opportunity to compete in football tournaments and helps develop coaching and event management skills. Ultimately the course identified work placements for participants with an opportunity of paid employment at the end of the course.
